Obituary for Angela Ceddia

Angela Ceddia

August 21, 1929 – August 10, 2023

Angela Ceddia was born in San Marco in Lamis, Italy, on August 21st, 1929. As a young girl, Angela was apprenticed to a seamstress to learn her trade and she went on to teach many other girls.

On July 16, 1965, Angela boarded the Queen Frederica in Naples with her mother, Maria Teresa (Martino) Ceddia. After they arrived in Halifax they travelled by train to Toronto to join Angela’s father, Matteo Ceddia, and the rest of her family. Angela and her mom enjoyed telling the story of their voyage, and all who knew them were familiar with the fun they had on board.

In 2006, Angela recreated the train journey with her niece, Vilma, who had arrived by the same route with her mother, Giuseppina, in 1956.  They left their stories at the Pier 21 Museum.

In Canada, Angela continued her work as a seamstress from the family home in Little Italy. She was as fashionable, charismatic and popular with family and friends as she was in San Marco. In 1967, Angela was especially happy to be reunited with her life long friend Maria Villani, when she also moved to Toronto.

Angela was very loving, an excellent cook and a perfect hostess. She loved children and was often a caregiver to her nieces and nephews. She also dedicated herself to the care of her parents until Matteo passed in 1991 and Maria Teresa in 2003.

Angela is also predeceased by her sister, Giuseppina, her brother-in-law, Pietro, her sister, Rachele, her brother-in-law, Tony, her niece Anna and Anna’s husband, Anthony.

Angela is survived by her dear brother, Michele and his dear wife, Anna.

Angela leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Vilma (Angelo), Teresa (Angelo), Danny, Lella (Geoff), Danny (Daniella), Teresa (Henry), Lucy (Jimmy), Maria Teresa (Steve) and Antonella (Mitchell).

Angela’s great nieces and nephews are: Leonardo (Karen), Pierangelo, Alessandro, Michael, Rachel, Peter, Oliver, Jake, Natasha (Matt), Chantal (Josh), Alexandra (Marc), Anthony, Luca, Veronica, Katia, Marlo and Max.

Angela’s great-great nieces and nephews are: Riley, Landon, Grayson, Holden, Madeleine, Matteo, Adriano and our newest addition, Raffaele.

Angela passed away peacefully at Kensington Hospice on August 10th, 2023. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her in Italy, Canada and Australia

A special thank you to the wonderful staff and lovely caregivers at Kensington Hospice. Also many thanks to the kind PSWs from Paramed.  Thank you also to Dr. Mazzotta and his care team. And a very special thank you to Teresa Simonetta for the care she provided.
