With sadness, we announce the passing of Dama Calaminici on May 14, 2022, at the age of 88. Reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Angelo (dec.1998). Cherished father to Grace Calaminici(dec.2003) and Bruno Calaminici. Adored Nonna of Miranda Grace Calaminici. Dama is survived by Bruno Calaminici, Hsiang Fei Lu, Miranda Grace Calaminici. Her dearest friend Tecla Pirisi of Toronto.
Dama’s birth place was Serra San Bruno, Catanzaro, Italy in the region of Calabria. Her parents Stefano Scopacasa and Maria Consolata Scopacasa both also born in Serra San Bruno. Dama was blessed with a seemingly endless supply of generosity and love of life. She is also survived by her dear sisters Cosima Timpano in Toronto, Rosina Macri in Montreal and Elvira Tavella in Turin, Italy. Sisters Carmela Amedeo (dec.) Turin, Italy, Gina Nola (dec.) Melbourne, Australia, Brothers Salvatore Scopacasa (dec.) Toronto and Bruno Scopacasa (dec.) Italy.
Dama Calaminici’s mother Maria Consolata was a gifted practitioner of natural medicines and the town’s Midwife who delivered more births than the town doctor. Her father Stefano was a powerful man and Patriarch who one never dared to cross or disrespect.
Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home (2960 Dufferin Street south of Lawrence Avenue. W.) on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 9 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend. For those unable to attend in person, visitation from 6-9 p.m. will be available via Zoom, PLEASE CLICK HERE to join. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church (72 Mansfield Ave., at Grace St.) on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 09:30am. For those unable to attend the mass in person PLEASE CLICK HERE to join via Zoom (ID 871 0952 3963). Dama will be laid to rest at Beechwood Cemetery (5250 Jane St., north of Steeles Ave.W.). At the request of the family, all visitors are to wear a mask and practice social distancing when able during their attendance at the funeral home and for the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to Doctors Without Borders is strongly encouraged in Dama’s memory.
