Obituary for Elisa Tanzini (Gabrielli)

It is with great sadness that the family of Elisa (Lella) Tanzini (nee Gabrielli) announce her passing on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of Italo Tanzini (d. 1982). Loving mother to Marcello and wife Mildred, and Vince and wife Rosemary. Dear grandmother (Nonna) to Sarah (Colin), Matthew (Joanna), Elise (Dennis), and Ivana, and great-grandmother (Bisnonna) to Nicole, Adeline, and Archie.

She will be greatly missed by her siblings Eduardo (Maria), Letizia (Michele), Adele (Giuseppe), Mario (Laura), and Alda (Ernesto). She will also be greatly missed by her sisters-in-law Rosina, Iris (Pietro), and Paola (Franco), brother-in-law Antonio (Graziella), and her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Aldo and sister Agata (Ugo), and her sister-in-law Madalena and brothers-in-law Arnoldo (Agata) and Pietro.

Elisa was born in 1925 in Prossedi, Latina, Italy and immigrated to Toronto in 1951. Elisa worked as a seamstress in the Garment District for many years. She moved with her husband Italo to a farm in Nashville, Ontario during the early 1970s, where she enjoyed gardening. They subsequently moved back to Toronto to be close to family and friends. She was an expert crocheter, and loved cooking, card games, dancing, singing, and especially getting together with her brothers and sisters. Her greatest joy was taking care of her grandchildren.

A wonderful and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Elisa touched the lives of all who knew her. She was strong and fiercely independent right up until her last year. Extremely hardworking and generous with her time and energy, Elisa was proud to share her cooking, especially her famous pizza and cookies, with countless friends and neighbours. Elisa was a parishioner at St. Charles Borromeo Church for over 60 years and attended daily Mass until very recently.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Elisa’s funeral service will be privately held at St. Charles Borromeo Church on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are welcome to participate online via St. Charles Borromeo's YouTube page:
