Obituary for Emma Melone (Torlone)

Emma Melone

March 10, 1930 - July 6, 2022

Emma Melone (Torlone) was called to God peacefully in her sleep on July 6, 2022. Born in the small hillside town of Navelli in Italy on March 10, 1930. Her early years were marked by the hardships of war and economic problems that were a part of Italian life. She immigrated to Canada in the early 50’s and settled in Toronto where she would meet her husband Adelchi Melone. They married and began their life together in the “old neighbourhood” at 13 Henry Street in Toronto, where they had two children Vince and Antonietta. Their home was filled with laughter, love, and people. As the children grew older, and times started changing, the family moved away from the city, and settled in Downsview, where Emma continued to foster a sense of love and family for anyone who dropped in. Many of us have fond memories of gatherings spent in the basement till late hours of the night during a holiday or of long conversations as we huddled around a table. Even though life gave her many challenges, she continued to have a strong sense of faith that we can admire. She is finally at rest with her family - predeceased by her husband and two children, survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She will be remembered for her strength of character, perseverance, and love.

Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home (2960 Dufferin St., south of Lawrence Ave. W.) on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 3-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Norbert’s Church (100 Regent Rd. – Ancaster Rd., north of Wilson Ave.) on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery (8361 Yonge St., south of Highway 7).

In memory of Emma, donations may be made to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.
