Obituary for Eugenia (Geni) Brun

Eugenia (Geni) Brun

1932 - 2022

With profound sadness but deep gratitude for her long life, we announce the passing of our beautiful Mom and Nonna on July 23, 2022, three weeks before her 90th birthday.

Beloved wife of the late Secondo Brun (2005). Much loved sister of Luciana Santarossa (Sergio) of Cimpello, Italy; Biagio Martin (Judy) of Parma Heights, Ohio and the late Livio Martin of Cimpello, Italy (2020)

Precious and devoted mother of Loretta (Earle, deceased), Lucy (Scott), Rita (Bill, deceased) and her beloved son, Maurice (d. 1983). Geni had a special fondness for each of her sons-in-law and valued their cheery dispositions, kind heartedness and affection.

She was the adored and loving Nonna of Graham (Rebecca), Cameron (Stephanie), Erika (Ben), Katie (John) and Emily (Ryan).

She is survived by cherished cousins, nieces and nephews throughout Canada, Italy, the United States and France.

Geni emigrated from Tiezzo, Italy to Sudbury in 1953, married Secondo and proceeded to fully embrace her new life in Canada. Among her many talents which included cooking, gardening and knitting, she was an exceptional seamstress. It amazed us that there was never anything she couldn’t tackle, create or restore. She retired from Sudbury Health Sciences (Laurentian Hospital) winning employee awards over the years and subsequently returned as a volunteer on the Pediatric unit.

Geni provided her children and grandchildren with nurturing love and support and of course, wonderful Italian meals, until her dementia journey began in her early 80’s. She was our rock and inspiration, facing life’s challenges with her quiet yet steadfast strength and unwavering faith in God.

We express our deepest thanks and gratitude to Mary Jean, Irma and Marilyn, her exceptional personal care givers, who provided compassionate and loving support to Geni. We are grateful to the care aides, nurses, staff and doctors at Villa Columbo Toronto Long Term Care Home on 5 Fusco and the Day Program for their dedicated and professional care.

Our Mom and Nonna was an indomitable force in our lives.  We will remember her courage, compassion and unconditional love and will carry loving memories of her in our hearts. Her enduring spirit will remain with us always.

Due to increasing COVID-19 cases and exercising an abundance of caution, a Celebration to honour Geni’s life will be held at a later date.

Please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society or Villa Colombo Toronto Auxiliary (VCTA) or a charity of your choice.
