Obituary for Flavia Capozzolo

Flavia Capozzolo, née Pepe, peacefully passed away on April 2, 2024, in her 90th year, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Mario (deceased) for 55 years and a loving mother to Franc, John (Paola), and Angela (Andrea). Flavia was cherished as a Nonna by Taylor, Frazer, Mario (Alessia), Robert (Setareh), Simone (Tom), and Monica (David). Additionally, she was blessed to be a great grandmother to Akasha, Alaya, Julian, Claire, and Cristian.

Flavia was born on November 8th, 1933, in Bellosguardo, Salerno, a small and picturesque town in Southwestern Italy.Flavia and Mario wed in 1956, and in 1958, along with their infant son Franc, they set sail for Canada. With great emotion and bravery, they waved goodbye to parents, family, and friends. Departing from the port of Naples, with uncertain assurance, they sailed for 20 days until they reached Pier 21 in Halifax. From there, they journeyed further West to start their new life in Toronto, Canada.

Over the next several years, they committed themselves to integrating into Canadian culture, learning a new language, and adapting to a new country. With hard work and dedication, it wasn't long before they and their growing family, with the addition of John and Angela, achieved their dream of becoming homeowners in Toronto. Despite spending more years in Canada, she never forgot her heritage. Whenever the opportunity arose to visit, she did so enthusiastically, especially when her children or grandchildren accompanied her.

Flavia was truly the strong matriarch of the family, ensuring everyone’s needs were met before her own. She led by example, demonstrating the importance of integrity and honesty in all endeavors. Her courage and fortitude in overcoming life’s obstacles were always met head-on with her unwavering faith and supporting family. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, sister-in-law’s, nieces, nephews, and neighborhood friends.

Much appreciation and love to Baycrest Health (Palliative 6 West) for their love and caring ways.

Flavia, you are in God's loving hands; may you rest in eternal peace.

Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home (2960 Dufferin St., south of Lawrence Ave., W.) on Friday, April 5th, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church (811 Lawrence Ave., W. at Dufferin St) on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Westminster Cemetery (5830 Bathurst Street, north of Finch Avenue.)
