Obituary

Francesco Argento, a loving father and proud grandfather, passed away at 90 years of age on October 2, 2020. His final days were spent surrounded by the family that he cherished more than anything.
Francesco was born on February 16, 1930 in the village of Sartano in Calabria, Italy. Having immigrated to Canada in 1954, Francesco and his late wife Maria worked tirelessly to raise their three children and provide them with a warm and loving home.

Francesco’s work ethic was something that carried with him until his final days and his tireless pursuit of perfection meant that he never stopped until everything was just right. Just before his passing, with barely enough strength to speak, he was complimenting the craftsmanship that went into the ceiling tiles of the hospital. He could often be found in his garden, making sure that his yearly harvest was right on schedule. As the summers would draw to a close, he would begin preparations for his yearly batch of homemade wine. And even though he loved working in his garden and making his wine, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.

Francesco may be gone but he leaves behind a family that loved him, a family that he often called “the best in Toronto”, including his daughter Lucia and her husband Augusto, his sons Aldo, Enzo and his wife Giovanna, and his six grandchildren Francesco, Cassandra, Dante, Claudia, Nicholas, and Andrea. More importantly, he leaves behind countless memories of laughs, shared meals, and stories that his family will cherish forever.

Mass of Christian burial in St. Charles Borromeo Church on Wednesday, October 7, at 10:00 a.m. Maximum number of people at the Church is 100. A private Entombment is to follow at Glendale Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Francesco’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Please note, that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic restrictions and social distancing requirements, for the visitation, the funeral home must conform to 30% occupancy capacity. Visitors may need to wait to enter the funeral home in order to maintain the capacity requirement. Face masks are mandatory and contact tracing information will be collected upon entering the building.
