Obituary for Giacomo 'Jack' Fazari

Giacomo 'Jack' Fazari

A hole has been left in all our hearts by the sudden and untimely passing of Giacomo 'Jack' Fazari, beloved family man and friend to many, on March 29, 2021, at the age of 76.

Jack came from humble beginnings, born in 1944 to Giuseppe and Rachele Fazari in San Giorgio Morgeto, Reggio, Calabria. He was the youngest of four brothers who remained tight-knit to the end: Pasquale (the late Teresa), Domenico (the late Natalina) and Michele (Pina). At 12, he immigrated to Canada with his parents and reunited with his brothers in Toronto.

Jack was larger than life in stature and presence. He emanated love and kindness, always offering a helping hand, listening without judgement and gathering people in his orbit. The centre of his life was his wife of 48 wonderful years, Rose, and their children, Rachel (Domenic D’Agostino) and Joseph (Giovanna). His later years were devoted to being the adored Nonno Jack to four grandsons, Paolo and Giacomo D’Agostino, and Giacomo and Matteo Fazari.

Few conversations with Jack didn’t include a hearty laugh and a story about his heritage, from the poverty of his childhood to working his way to becoming a successful entrepreneur. He was known as Uncle Jack to many, not just his many nieces and nephews, because he treated everyone like family. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law Grace (the late Domenic Pileggi).

There is comfort in knowing that the lessons Jack instilled in those he loved will live on – treat people with respect; work hard and with integrity; live life with passion. Jack had a big heart and will be with us forever in our hearts and memories.

It is with very heavy hearts that our family has made the difficult decision to hold a private funeral with our immediate family, in honor of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Jack Fazari. Due to the evolving status of COVID-19, we have chosen to do this in order to minimize the threat of spreading the coronavirus. Ultimately, we recognize that the health and safety of our loved ones comes first. We appreciate your love and support at this time, and we welcome your messages of condolence. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Friends and relatives are welcome to participate in Jack's funeral Mass virtually on Friday at 9:30 a.m.:
