Obituary for Giovanni Cardinale

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Giovanni Cardinale. Beloved husband of Giuseppina Cardinale (nee Nasturzio) for 66 years, adored father of Filomena Rachiele (Sam, predeceased), Frank Cardinale (Joanne, predeceased), and Nick Cardinale (Gina), cherished Nonno of Nadia (Kyle), Roberto (Francesca), Vanessa, Johnny (Kim), Samantha, Lauren and Emma, and great-grandfather of Sofia, Ryan, Anthony and Francesco. Predeceased by his siblings Felice, Saveria, Maria, Alberto, Rocco and Gerardo.

Giovanni was born to Francesco Cardinale and Filomena Cardinale (nee Gesa) in San Nicola Baronia, Avellino, Campania, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1955 to join his wife Giuseppina. Giovanni worked several decades as a master shoemaker and together with Giuseppina raised their family in Toronto’s Corso Italia neighbourhood. The family home on Earlscourt Avenue has been the site of hundreds of joyous celebrations and gatherings with family and friends. Giovanni will be greatly missed.
