Obituary for Giuseppe Luccisano

Giuseppe Luccisano

June 26, 1935 – September 14, 2023

Giuseppe Luccisano died peacefully in his home in Toronto on September 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old. Giuseppe was born on June 26, 1935 to Francesco Luccisano and Angela Luccisano (nee Macri) in San Giorgio Morgeto, Italy. In 1955, he left the town of his birth, aboard the ocean liner Saturnia, to start a new life in Toronto. It was in the new world that he became enamored of Angela Carere, also from San Giorgio, whom he married in 1962. They would go on to have two children, Lucy and Mary. Their loving marriage lasted for over 61 years.

Joe, as he was known to family and friends, was a tailor by trade. He worked in the men’s clothing business for two decades while growing his young family. He went on to become a co-owner of BL Aluminum, a window manufacturing company, with his brothers Giovanni, Tony, Vincenzo, and Carlo. Joe’s greatest pleasures were gardening, listening to music, playing with his grandchildren, watching wrestling, and playing cards with his brother Tony. He was a gentle, patient and wise person, who was ready to help at any time. He was also a man of faith and belonged to the Catholic Church.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, his sister Teresa (Peppino), and his brothers Giovanni and Carlo. He is survived by his wife Angela, his daughters Lucy (Pino) and Mary (Nick). His grandchildren Luca, Michael, Eva, and Dario were a source of joy for him over the last fifteen years. He will be dearly missed by his two brothers Tony and Vincenzo (Maria) Luccisano, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Joe was diagnosed in 2018 with Progressive Supra-Nuclear Palsy, a neurological condition. He fought valiantly, but ultimately succumbed to the disease.  The family owes a debt of gratitude to “Team Joe,” a group of personal service workers, nurses and doctors who provided care and kindness to him in his time of need. Joe’s determination to live, along with the care and love that surrounded him, gave him the strength to engage in everyday life up until a few days before he passed.

Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Homes (2960 Dufferin St., south of Lawrence Ave. W.) on Friday, September 22 from 2 - 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church (811 Lawrence Ave. W., at Dufferin St.) on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.

Giuseppe will be laid to rest at Westminster Cemetery (5830 Bathurst St., north of Finch Ave.).
