Obituary for Italia Di Pasquale

Italia DiPasquale “Nana” passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020 at the age of 84.

She was predeceased by her husband Donato, and her two sons, Franco and Gianni. She is survived by her only daughter Anna Arcuri (Giuseppe); grandchildren, Domenic (Iolanda), Maria (Robert), Cinzia (Ian), and her precious baby Luca. Italia was blessed to be a “Bisnonna” to Giuseppe, Giacomo, and Giordano. Italia was loved by her sisters-in-law, Elena, Antonietta, and Maria, as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Italia was born on November 18th, 1935 in Roccamorice, Abruzzo, Italy; the youngest of nine children to parents Bartolomeo DiMatteo and Maria Concetta Bucci. She grew up under Fascist rule in poverty and endured tremendous suffering during the Great Depression and the Second World War.

In 1957, Italia came to Canada to build a better life for herself and her family. She worked in an upholstery factory on Arrow Road for decades and her incredible work ethic, spirit and ability earned her a management position. She was adored by those she supervised, and her colleagues respected their friendship. Italia was a strong woman and was the primary breadwinner for her family. The sacrifices she made provided opportunity and a secure life for her children and grandchildren.

Italia will be remembered for her self-respect, the profound love she had for her family, her big, “no-nonsense” personality, and her matter of fact, “no filter” speaking. She is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed. Her great spirit will live within her family for an eternity.

Nana, thank you for all that you have done for us and for all of the beautiful memories that you have given us. We miss you and love you dearly.
