Obituary for Nunzio Napoletano

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Nunzio Napoletano.  He is survived by his wife Antonietta, beloved children daughter Sandra, sons Mauro and Fabio and brothers Vincenzo and Angelo (Eva) and sister- in-law Giovannina (Alfredo pre.dec).  His cherished grandson Leo, Leo’s father David and his many nieces and nephews and extended family in Italy.  He is predeceased by his brother Antonio (Cristina) and sister-in-law Angelina.

Nunzio immigrated from Roccamandolfi, Italy to Toronto Canada in 1972 where he started working random jobs that never lasted very long.  He quickly decided he was more suited as a self-employed man when he started a modest cleaning and maintenance business that earned him and his family a very comfortable living.  He worked well beyond average retirement age not because he needed to, he truly enjoyed being with the people at his workplace.

He was a very social man never missing a chance to tell stories about his pastimes in Italy.  Amesbury Community Centre was a second home to him which he frequented daily.  His social network of close friends there brought him a lot of joy, just as much as his love for playing bocce ball and card games.

He adored his children and even though he would be the first to admit he wished he worked less and spent more time with his family, his love was for them was deeply felt. He was a proud grandfather. His grandson Leo brought him so much happiness. Watching him fall more in love with his grandson over the years are cherished memories he leaves behind.

Despite the physical challenges he endured from his disease he insisted on being active right up to the day he was admitted to the hospital.  He battled a chronic and progressive lung disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.  He suffered an acute exacerbation which was too big for his frail body that had already been weakened by the disease over the years.  His body surrendered to the disease but his will to live was mighty right up until he took his last breath.  He passed away with his loving family by his side on May 27, 2022.

You will be deeply missed papa.  Ti vogliamo tanto bene.

In memory of Nunzio donations may be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
