Obituary for Rosario Marcello

September 2, 1938 - May 7, 2020

It is with profound sorrow, we mourn the loss of our beloved father and nonno, Rosario Marcello. On May 7, 2020 at the age of 81, Rosario was called home to join his late wife Nancy, who is welcoming him with open arms. Cherished father to Pasquale and Bruno (Filomena). Proud nonno to Gianluca, Rosario, Massimo and Daniel. Beloved brother to his siblings Isabella, Rosa, Anna (Roberto), Onforio (Nadia), Basilia (Fulvio) in Milan, Italy and the late Domenica and late Giorgio. He will be missed dearly by his sisters-in-law Brunina and Guiseppina of Toronto. Also, Brother-in-law Cosimo. Rosario will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and their families.

In the 1960’s, Rosario left his home in Milano, previously Pizzo, Calabria, and embarked on the journey of a lifetime, to start a life in Canada. He married the love of his life, Nancy, in April 1968 and went on to raise a beautiful family, that was the centre of his universe. He spent many years being companion and caregiver to his wife Nancy, while always opening his home to friends and family. He loved to have you visit with him, talk and share a meal. In the last 14 years of his life, his focus was always his children and grandchildren. He loved nothing more than to hear their voices and give them hugs and kisses. Even as he battled illness for 10 years, he never lost his focus on his family. He loved them beyond words and they in return.

During this unprecedented situation with COVID-19, it is with heavy hearts that the funeral service is private. This will ensure that we continue to keep our family and friends safe and do our part to continue to minimize the spread of COVID-19. A link will be made available for the live stream of the private service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Rosario be directed to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Online condolences may also be left on the Memory Wall.

We are forever grateful for your love, support and understanding during this difficult time. A memorial and celebration of life will be held for all friends and family at a future date.
