Obituary for Salvatore Noto

Salvatore Noto, 90, son of the late Francesco and Teresina Noto, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2023 at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born October 23, 1932 in San Fili, Cosenza. He will be forever missed by his loving wife Giuseppina. Cherished by his children Teresa (John) and Frank (Vivian). Proud Nonno of Christina (George), John Jr. (Chelsea), Salvatore, Lucas (Evita), Benjamin, & Thomas and proud Bisnonno of Pina-Sofia. Dear brother of Maria (Alfredo) and Mirella. Predeceased by his younger brother Carmine (Franco), his brother-in-law Salvatore, and his sister-in-law Franca. He will be dearly missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, and his many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Macy, Salvatore’s dedicated caregiver, for her kindness, devotion, and care.

Salvatore Noto was a man who would do anything for the people he loved. A man of hard work, of pride, of determination, of creativity and of selflessness. He was a man of invention, who could take the motor out of a washing machine to use as the motor for his homemade sausage machine. He loved his homemade salami and wine, making fresh tomato sauce, doing crossword puzzles, watching Italian game shows, and reading.

Salvatore immigrated from Italy to Canada, and with his devoted wife of 63 years Giuseppina by his side, they built an incredible life together. He not only raised his own two children, but also his grandchildren. He raised us to be respectful, loyal, kind, honest, and selfless, to value family, education, and hard work. For all of us, he was our safe place, our strength, and our greatest support. In our faith, there is the promise of eternal life. But there are those select few who get to experience eternal life here on earth. Salvatore Noto will live on in us forever. He did more than simply live. He left behind a legacy that will endure. He gave us all a home, a way of life, and our family.

Grief is the price we pay for love. The greater the love, the greater the loss. Today, our grief is immeasurable. Through the tears, we must remember the good. Salvatore would want us to remember him when he was strong. “Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you. My mind is at ease and my body is at rest. Remember how I was truly blessed.” A man of hard work has earned his rest. Caro Salvatore, we will love you forever. God bless you as the Angels fly you home. Until we meet again.

Visitations will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home (2960 Dufferin St., south of Lawrence Ave. W.) on Sunday May 7, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church (811 Lawrence Ave. W., at Dufferin St.) on Monday May 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Glendale Memorial Gardens (1810 Albion Rd., Etobicoke)

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in honor of Salvatore to The Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Liver Foundation in honor of loved ones who are currently battling or who have battled these diseases.
