Obituary for Antonina (Nini) Scolaro
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved sister Antonina (aka Nini) Scolaro on February 4, 2021. Heaven has gained a pure and gracious soul. Although she was taken from us much too soon, we are truly blessed to have had this beautiful angel in our life for 60 years.
Nini was a loving daughter to Giuseppe and Maria, and is now reunited with them for eternity. She was a devoted caregiver to her mother Maria, who God called peacefully on January 10, 2021. As they were soulmates on earth, they are now soulmates in heaven.
She is predeceased by Nonni Antonino Bisignano and Antonina Caffarelli, her namesake, along with many other cherished family members.
She leaves an unimaginable void in the heart of her sister Mary and brother-in-law Joe Di Roma. She will be deeply missed by her precious nephew Joseph Anthony who called her his “Zia Nini”. She was incredibly proud to be his Zia, and would do anything she could to ensure his happiness. She was also known as Zia Nini to many other children who loved and respected her throughout the years, and she was truly humbled by their affection.
She will be greatly missed by her aunts, Giuseppina and Maria Bisignano, cousin Enzarita (Salvatore) who shares her birthdate, and other cousins in Italy. In Canada, she will be remembered by Zii Frank and Lina D’Assisi, in addition to her numerous cousins, large extended family, as well as close friends and neighbours.
All her life, Nini had a beautiful song in her voice and a comforting smile on her face. She was sweet, gentle, patient, kind and incredibly caring by nature. She had a youthful spirit and a heart of gold. She was known for her cheerful conversations that frequently started with “Well you know...”. Nini always saw the good in people and cherished her time working with children. She made sure that each child knew they were special and truly paid attention to their needs. She would ensure that there were always crafts and entertainment under the basement stairs so that the little ones would look forward to coming back to visit the unforgettable house on Oakwood Ave. She was famous for sending the children home with a treat bags, always wrapped with a ribbon.
She enjoyed creating photo books with all the special keepsakes that were connected to important occasions, and was so happy to share them with family and friends. She always took the time to find or create personalized gifts for her loved ones. The hand written cards and notes in her beautiful calligraphy were treasured by all. Her special touch was heartfelt and will be fondly remembered by her family.
Nini and her mother always took the time to keep in touch with the “paesani”, and to inform them of TV programs that they might be interested in watching or to discuss anything related to Italy. Nini never forgot anyone’s birthday and brought joy to everyone when she sang “Happy Birthday” to them. She ensured that the young and old were always taken care of at family gatherings and never missed a moment to offer her help. Nini was a gracious host, and loved to entertain by serving tea or coffee in her fanciest cups. She enjoyed daily “Merenda time“ with her mother. She inherited her mother’s green thumb as she loved gardening and sharing her tips and the fruits of their labour with family and friends.
Nini will also be remembered for her keen sense of style as she was always very well dressed and coordinated. She was a chef, a personal stylist, a gardener, a concerned neighbour, a dear friend, a dedicated caregiver, a patient listener, a family historian and a natural physiotherapist. Her greatest sense of pride came from being a thoughtful and compassionate daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and most importantly, an unforgettable person who everyone adored and loved. Our Nini will forever be in our hearts.
We know God has welcomed her into His arms, and will care for her as she selflessly cared for her family all her life.
May you rest In eternal peace, Zia Nini, with Nonno Giuseppe and Nonna Maria.
Riposa in pace, mia carissima sorella, con Mamma e Papà.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Humber River Hospital (Intensive Care Unit), in particular the kind nurses, Dr. Manocha, and Social Worker Paula for their outpouring of love and care during Nini’s final journey.

Dearest Mary, Joe and Joseph,
It is with heavy hearts we send our warmest condolences to you and your family as you already morn the recent passing of your mother Maria and now the sudden passing of your sister Nini. It was much to soon for her to leave us. The Lord had a plan for Nini. The plan was to join her loving Mother and father in heaven where they can walk among the angels, caring for all who enters the gates of heaven. Nini will be remembered for her soft spoken gentle words of wisdom. A true hearted young lady who was filled with all goodness, compassion, and kindness for anyone who knew her. Her memories will live on in my heart from childhood play days to enlightened adult conversations every time we met. Her personality, her smile and presence was infectious, it was always a pleasure to see her. Nini will sadly be missed but never forgotten. We had yet much more conversations and company to share in. Until we meet again Nini, we will keep you in our prayers and listen to your whispers in our hearts. May the soft whispers of your sister speak to your heart and the hearts of your loved ones. May it be of some comfort to you and your family as your aching hearts mend the pains of sorrow and fill with the joys and beautiful memories of your sister NIni and your mother Maria. Rest in Peace Nini.
