It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ronald (Ronnie) Chiovitti on December 19, 2020. Ronnie was the beloved son of the late Samuel and Connie (Mainelli) Chiovitti. Beloved husband of Sandy and proud father of Samuel (Heidi) and Christopher (Iva). Adored Papa of Summer, Kylie and Charlotte and cherished nephew of Camille Mainelli.

Ronnie was the president of Chiovitti Banana Company. Known as the “Banana King”. He was well respected and loved by all that knew him. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He was kind-hearted and very generous, a mentor to so many.

Ron left us beautiful memories
His love is still our guide
And though we cannot see him
He is always by our side

In lieu of flowers our family would appreciate donations in memory of Ron to either Toronto General Hospital or Princess Margaret Hospital Foundations. Our sincerest gratitude to the doctors and nurses for the wonderful care given to Ron.

A private funeral service has taken place with funeral arrangements entrusted to Bernardo Funeral Home (Dufferin Chapel). Memories and condolences may be shared online at

To the Chiovitti family

Today i heard the news of Ron’s passing .
I am deeply saddened for your loss.
I did business with Ron over 18 years ago and i can honestly say that he was always a true gentleman.. Individuals such as Ron are hard to come by.
Please remember that a person never really dies unless he/she is forgotten. With that i am certain that Ron will live on forever .
May god bless

Sincerely, Salvatore Cuddemi

Message of condolence to Sandy Chiovitti from Mary Wood.

I was saddened to see you have lost a devoted husband. However I saw in the Globe this morning your sons have grown and you are blessed with grandchildren. That must be a comfort at this sad time.

I well remember your kindness and generosity in 1993 when you helped me try to make a difference in the lives of the Innu children in what was then Davis Inlet, Labrador. You drove out to Whitby and were present at a memorable meeting when my modest little charitable organization, Innushare, fell apart. As I look back on that time I remember the support you gave me and am confident that your family will help you get through your own grieving process.
Best wishes for all of us in 2021.
